Every four years, I love this time of year! Why you ask? Well because it’s an Olympic year! I love
the Winter Olympics! I love the Summer Olympics too, but the Winter Olympics has it’s own
special charms for me! It has danger! One of the first things my Father did when we moved to
Canada was to purchase my sister and I skates and the local hockey team’s jersey (the great
Montreal Canadians!).
So, with the Winter Olympics also brings the Ravellenics! I had never heard of this until I worked at baa ram ewe. I was intrigued! Combining sports and knitting, excellent! My first Winter Ravellenics I embraced the challenge! Being a lover of hockey and having just embraced the joy of making socks, I entered in the Sock Hockey category. In two weeks I made 5 pairs of DK socks! I made a lovely dent in my Christmas knitting! I should point out I went totally bonkers at the last summer Olympics and ended up doing a Heptathalon of knitting projects! So, I need to get may skates on and start planning what I am going to make these Winter Olympics! I may enter a couple of
categories ... Sock Hockey is a sure bet, but what else?!?! I am thinking of Sweater Skeleton,
possibly WIPs Dancing and Shawl Skating (you all know how I love a shawl!) Find out more about Ravellenics here.
If you haven’t taken part in Ravellenics, why not give it a go? Join the baa ram ewe team and set your challenges. Joelle and I will be moderating and we would love to see what you are all going to create in this Ravellenics. I find it is a great motivator to get some serious knitting done! It also provides me an excellent excuse to get up at silly o’clock (those different time zones!!) and get some knitting
done! Find out more here.
If you haven’t watched the Winter Olympics, why not give it a go? There are some exciting
new sports, the snow boarding and short track speed skating are some of my favourites. Check
out the curling and see what those crazy Norwegians are wearing (they are famous for their
trousers!!)! There are so many great stories that come out of the Olympics, how could you forget
Eddie the Eagle and the Jamaican Bobsled Team (both of these made into movies!!)! So set your
reminders for Friday, February 9th at 11:00ish, Opening Ceremonies will mark the cast on! Let the
games commence!
